Patient Information
Evaluation
All patients who elect to obtain treatment at the Palisades Laser Eye Center
require a pre-operative evaluation. During your initial consultation a
number of specialized tests will be conducted, which include a macroscopic
examination and computerized mapping of your cornea. This information will
be used to determine if you are a candidate for LASIK. If you wear soft
contact lenses, please discontinue wearing them one week before your
examination. Hard contacts should be discontinued two weeks before the
examination. This initial consultation and evaluation lasts about one-half
hour. During a second examination, your eyes will be dilated with drops, which
may impair your vision. Therefore, please make necessary arrangements for
transportation.
Before The Procedure
You should allow approximately forty-five minutes for your treatment and
arrange for someone to drive you home. If transportation is a problem please
let us know so we can arrange to have transportation provided. Patients
should discontinue wearing hard contact lenses at least two weeks and soft
contaccts at least one day before the procedure.
The Day Of Your Treatment
Please do not wear eye or face makeup, hairspray or perfume on the day of the
procedure. When you arrive for your procedure, drops will be placed in your eye.
LASIK is performed using topical anesthesia with eye drops. The procedure
itself is painless. All procedures are performed on an outpatient basis.
Following Treatment
Following your treatment, a clear protective shield or contant lens bandage will
be placed over the operative eye and will be removed the next day. LASIK patients
are generally quite comfortable but may have a dry eye or foreign body sensation.
You will be given medication or drops to minimize any discomfort. Depending upon
your occupation, most patients can return to work within one to three days. Usually,
two or more follow-up visits are needed. Pleease remember that these visits and the
post-operative medications are very important to the long-term success of your
treatment. Restrictions after treatment include no swimming for two weeks and
no eye makeup for three days.
Refractive Procedure Payment Options
LASIK is usually not covered by insurance plans.
Payment in full is due the day of treatment. Payment can be made in cash, cashiers
check, personal check, Visa, or Mastercard. A convenient payment plan is also
available.

that your insurance company does cover this procedure, we encourage you to verify
it with your individual carrier by referring to CPT code #65771 for radial keratotomy

not presently have a specific CPT code.
If your insurance company does cover this procedure, we will work with you and assist
you in receiving reimbursement.
- Flexible Spending
Patient with flexible spending medical benefits from their place of employment can use
those funds for this procedure.
- Financial Plan
We realize that many people do not have the financial resources to pay for the
refractive procedure all at once. We are able to offer a convenient payment plan
for those who are interested.
